The C-21 is my latest obsession. I address many of the shortcomings as soon as a "new" one comes into the shack. New knobs, new Momentary push buttons with quick disconnects, PTO rebuild, removal of the RCA I/O gang and replacement with modern connectors and a power switch for the ACC DC jack, a PTO tap utilizing a BNC connector in an existing manufacturer hole on the back, variable side-tone pitch from 450-800, and various other aesthetic improvements. Everything reversible. What a fun radio. I'd encourage anyone interested to check out the Ten-Tec Century 21 Restoration thread on QRZ. 15 pages of intel. I replaced mine with illuminated ones from RS, still available on eBay. I got push-on/push-off units, so I wouldn't have to use both hands while tuning for zero-beat. A quirk of mine: I prefer to tune around with the zero-beat "on" (the light reminds me it's on), zero-beat the other guy, then shut the zero switch off. For some reason, I don't lose the other guy as much when making the transition like I did when I did it the normal way. YMMV. I put the other switch in just for looks.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05497590144211649930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1146246558798303856.post-79131503136742702562018-10-19T14:56:49.376-04:002018-10-19T14:56:49.376-04:00I agree, vintage equipment has something special. ...I agree, vintage equipment has something special. Someone before me had taken some blue translucent plastic and wrapped in cylinders around the bulbs. When I pulled the cover (shortly after taking this photo) I saw that it had melted the blue plastic sheets in a couple of places and left burnt debris near the PTO adjustment slug and in general was a fire hazard. I removed the blue plastic and as much of the tape as I could. now it's back to good old fashioned white light.

I assume someone was trying to make it look like a Drake.
