The doublet is the best performer when portable but dealing with the end fed is easier. The KXPA100 integration to the KX3 ma...Agreed Bob. The KXPA100 integration to the KX3 makes it very easy to start all my QSOs at 5w and if I need to raise power it is a simple twist of the knob. I just finished a QRP contact on 20m. RBN network is showing my 5W of power was netting me up to 27dB above noise to some stations so the bands are definitely up and down. Conditions have be...I owned my KX3 for five years. Conditions have become such where it makes sense to buy the KXPA100 and used when necessary. Pretty much what FCC rules say: run the power you need to run. Left unsaid is "don't obssess over QRP." <br /><br />The KX3 line is expensive, but it provides flexibility -- both from an operating perspective (base vs portable) and space. I have the KX3, PX3, and KXPA100. That's it. They fit nicely on a very narrow desk I own.
